
MECHUQUE ISLAND
Known as the "Venice Chilota" for its canals and its town divided in two, linked by an oriental style bridge.




The island is characterized by its stilt houses, these being one of the main attractions of the island. It was originally occupied by a seafood canning industry. It is currently one of the most typical walks to take in Chiloé, with visits to the museum and one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the archipelago.
Island of the Chiloé archipelago belonging to the set of the Chauques Islands. This town had its great timber boom in 1900, with the exploitation of native woods. A canning industry was installed and there was a great activity in the navigation to the north and south of the archipelago. The town grew and large houses were built. The town of Mechuque is a town with stilt houses, built on the edge of the sea.
